David Clark got a nice surprise when he came across a piping plover at East Beach in Norfolk. 'Though I've seen them fairly often at Back Bay/False Cape in Virginia Beach and also at Grandview in Hampton, this is the first I've ever seen in Norfolk,' Clark wrote. Dave Johnston sent a beautiful photo of a brown pelican standing at attention on a piling behind his house in Baycliff on Mill Dam Creek in Virginia Beach. 'We have had a recent influx of pelicans due to a significant increase in bait fish infiltrating Mill Dam Creek directly off of Broad Bay,' Johnston wrote.
